THE SEA FESTIVAL 2010
From July 30 till August 1 a Lithuanian port- city Klaipeda for the 51st time will become the venue of the largest summer fiesta - the Sea Festival. The Festival, which has been organized since 1934, promotes Lithuania as a maritime state and Klaipeda as a friendly, open, safe and attractive port city. The Sea Festival of the current year will also announce the 75th anniversary of the Lithuanian Navy. About half a million quests from Lithuania and foreign states arrive to the Festival.
To continue a long-lived organization traditions, there are a lot of events each year that are related to the sea: a parade of maritime organizations of the city, commemoration of the first Lithuanian sea captain Liudvikas Stulpinas, a ceremony to honour those who perished at sea, day voyages by ships, water sports competitions, a ceremony to pay tribute to the best seafarers and maritime organizations.
Besides the official ceremonies, an interesting entertainment program for the participants of the Festival will be proposed. In the territory of the old city, concert places with different programs for children, youth and elderly people will be arranged. Together with professional artists, troupes of public art organizations will perform at the festival. Exhibition halls, picture galleries, cultural institutions open their doors for visitors inviting to new expositions related to the Sea Festival and the sea. The participants of the Sea Festival are able to take part in more than 100 different events annually.
Plus to the concerts, street performances, exhibitions and other art events, the Sea Festival attracts hundreds of folk artists selling their works; tents of open-air cafés open up in the city squares and streets, families with children entertain in specially arranged attraction parks. In the evening picturesque fireworks decorate the sky of Klaipeda. Klaipeda city events organized for the 758 anniversary of the city will be included into the program of the Sea Festival 2010
